Cesare Borgia is a direct descendant of his namesake and the last of the Borgia line. Though he is not a Monacello by blood, his family is one of the noble houses of Italy, and can be traced all the way back to his infamous namesake. The Borgias have always had their fingers in everything, and the flourishing mafia business is Reggio Calabria is no different. But his story is a little different.
Cesare's father, a powerful politician in Rome, struck a bargain with the Monacello in order to gain more power: Rodrigo would give to them and their scientists his oldest son, and they would give back to him a creature changed, a boy with the same fabled abilities as the Cesare Borgia of history. Another child experiment: Project Cantarella. Classified as a success, the changes to his outward appearance were minimal–a slitting of the pupil of his eyes, like a cat... or a demon–but the changes to his blood was rather drastic. Though it made him physically immune to any poisons, his own blood became a poison itself, which even physical contact with can kill. And to which there is no cure.
The experiments complete, Cesare returned to Rome, and there his father's politics began to gain popularity... mostly because the opposition kept mysteriously dying. With Cesare's assistance, Rodrigo climbed the political ladder with ease, rising as high as Prime Minister.
With his own power assured, it was time to fulfill his part of the bargain and Rodrigo returned Cesare to Reggio Calabria and to the Monacello family... before effectively cutting him off and leaving him there at only the age of thirteen. The Monacello Don recognized Cesare's potential, and the boy was trained: in diplomacy, in tactics, in strategy, and in combat. But never in killing. For that was something he needed no training for.
Cesare's family connections make him invaluable in securing foreign alliances, and he has been away doing just that–until now. Until Byakuran's death, and the phone call from the Don, instructing him to drop whatever deals he had been making, and return–as the new Sotto Capo. |
